RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) _ The former owners of a shuttered eastern Indiana hospital say they'll help state officials with testing to determine who's responsible for contamination at the site.
But Reid Hospital officials said they don't believe they're responsible for most of the contamination, especially for asbestos in parts of the seven-building complex.
Reid Hospital President Craig Kinyon says the building was “in move-in condition'' in 2008 when the hospital relocated to a new location in Richmond.
The Palladium-Item reports tests done earlier this year revealed arsenic, chromium, thallium and other toxic materials in four areas at the complex.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management hasn't determined the extent of that contamination.
IDEM spokesman Dan Goldblatt says the initial tests demonstrated “that more testing is needed.''
