HAMMOND, Ind. (AP): A northwestern Indiana man accused of threatening to kill judges in a Facebook post has been sentenced to more than three years in custody.

U.S. District Court Chief Judge Philip Simon sentenced 23-year-old Samuel Bradbury of Pine Village on Wednesday to 41 months incarceration and two years of supervised release. The judge also ordered him to pay more than $7,000 in restitution.

A jury convicted Bradbury last July of maliciously conveying false information concerning the use of fire or explosives. Court documents say West Lafayette police received information that Bradbury was making threats on his Facebook page, claiming to have chemical weapons and explosives.

Officers found anti-government poems in Bradbury’s home, along with materials used to make explosives.

Bradbury told police he was practicing free speech and that the social media posts were a joke.
