Parades drew crowds in Fort Wayne and South Bend, and some officials observed a more somber occasion. Gov. Mike Pence spoke at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, where more than 2,000 soldiers from every U.S. war are buried in a 1.4-acre national cemetery.
