Indiana police hold off on disclosing shooting information

ELKHART, Ind. (AP): Police in northern Indiana say they aren’t disclosing more information about the circumstances of a fatal weekend shooting of a 29-year-old man where two officers heard gunshots, ran to the scene and fired shots.

Elkhart police Sgt. Chris Snyder said at a news conference Tuesday the department is waiting for state police to complete their investigation into the shooting death of Norman Gary.

Police Chief Ed Windbigler identified the two officers involved as Sgt. Nathan Lanzen and Cpl. Leonard Dolshenko. Windbigler and Mayor Tim Neese declined to take any questions during the news conference.

Neese asked anyone with information to call police.

Snyder said there is no indication race played a role in the shooting. Both officers are white, the victim was black.
