INDIANAPOLIS (AP): The Indiana Department of Transportation says it will start removing political signs that are illegally posted on U.S. and state highway roadsides.

INDOT recently received complaints from residents about the signs in the southern part of the state and will begin removing them Monday. Candidates will be able to get their signs back from local INDOT maintenance facilities during normal business hours.

An INDOT news release says the signs are illegal because of the risk of distracting motorists.

Indiana voters head to the polls to vote in the state’s primary elections on May 3.
