FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO) — Indiana residents will have the opportunity to cast a line without purchasing a fishing license during the state’s annual Free Fishing Weekend on June 6-7, 2026.
The event allows residents to fish in Indiana’s public waters without a fishing license or trout/salmon stamp. Children ages 17 and younger can already fish without a license year-round, but the weekend opens the opportunity for adults to enjoy the sport at no cost.
State officials say Free Fishing Weekend is designed to encourage more people to experience fishing, spend time outdoors with family and friends, and learn about Indiana’s recreational fishing opportunities.
Many locations throughout the state will host special events, including fishing workshops, educational programs, and fishing derbies for participants of all ages.
While license requirements are waived during the weekend, all other fishing regulations remain in effect. Anglers must continue to follow established seasons, bag limits, and size restrictions.
Officials encourage both experienced anglers and first-time participants to take advantage of the annual event and explore Indiana’s lakes, rivers, streams, and other public waterways.
