INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ A bill to increase regulation of Indiana's abortion clinics has Indiana Senate approval after a committee gutted contested provisions that would have required all clinics to meet current building code standards and undergo annual inspections.

The Senate voted 34-14 Tuesday in favor of the bill that would require abortion providers to establish a 24-hour-a-day phone line for patients to call in case of questions or complications.

The proposal also requires doctors performing abortions to have admitting privileges at a nearby hospital or to have a written agreement with another physician with those privileges. They must give patients the hospital contact information before the procedure.

The bill now goes to the House for consideration.
