Indiana State Police Investigating Shooting Following In Miami County

PERU, Ind. (WOWO) — Indiana State Police detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred late Thursday night near U.S. 31 and County Road 200 North in Miami County.

According to investigators, officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Office responded around 11 p.m. to a reported accident in the area. When authorities arrived, they discovered two individuals at the scene, including one person suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police deployed K9 units, drones, and an ISP helicopter after receiving reports that additional individuals had fled into a nearby wooded area. Despite the extensive search, no additional suspects were located. However, investigators recovered a firearm at the scene.

The preliminary investigation determined the gunshot was fired from inside the vehicle.

During the investigation, authorities arrested Jadyn E. Watts after allegedly finding him in possession of a narcotic drug. He was booked into the Miami County Jail on a Level 6 felony charge.

The individual who was shot was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Indiana State Police say the investigation remains active.
