INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indiana has a large number of veterans who are returning home as the Army thins its ranks and winds down its overseas engagements. Brig. Gen. Malcolm Frost tells The Associated Press that's putting an added strain on a network of veterans' services.
Unfortunately for Hoosier soldiers coming home, state veterans advocates says Indiana lags far behind other states when it comes to getting services to those in need.
Frost says Indiana has 710 homeless veterans and those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan have an unemployment rate of 10 percent.
A 2014 report by the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs found the state was deficient in 21 different ways, both large and small, that hamper the delivery of services ranging from job placement to medical care.
