Indianapolis Man Gets 65 Years in Cold Case Murder

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ An Indianapolis man who admitted to killing and raping a teenager 24 years ago has been sentenced 65 years in prison.

Forty-year-old Rodney Denk signed a plea agreement on May 30 admitting he killed 16-year-old Amy Weidner in exchange for the 65-year sentence.

Denk was arrested 11 months ago after a palm print taken from a 1997 arrest was found to match the one found at Weidner’s home. She had been beaten, sexually assaulted and strangled inside her Indianapolis home.

Prosecutors say Denk was a friend of Weidner’s family at the time. The unsolved case was reopened last year.
