Indianapolis Officers Badly Wound Man in Shooting

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Authorities say Indianapolis police officers seriously wounded a man in an exchange of gunfire after a brief chase.

City police Sgt. Kendale Adams says a squad car was hit by gunshots but the three officers involved weren't hurt in the shooting late Tuesday. Adams says the injured man was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition with several gunshot wounds.

The chase began when an officer tried to stop a pickup truck for a traffic violation on the city's southwest side. Adams says the truck stopped at a dead-end drive in an industrial area, with the man getting out of the truck and shooting at officers.

Two other people in the truck weren't injured and were taken in for questioning by investigators.
