Indy Mayor Urges Residents to Prep for Storm and Cold

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard is urging residents in the state's capital to stock up on necessary supplies ahead of big winter storm that's forecast to bring heavy snowfall and sub-zero readings.

The mayor says extreme cold that will follow this weekend's storm “poses a serious health and safety risk” and residents need to be ready for it.

Monday's highs are forecast to be below zero behind the storm that's expected to push east of the state Sunday night after dumping heavy, wind-driven snowfall.

The city's public safety director, Troy Riggs, is encouraging residents to check on their elderly neighbors, friends and relatives before the storm arrives Saturday evening.

Riggs says people should also safeguard any pets they might keep outdoors to protect them from the bitter cold.
