Indy Students to Help Promote HIV Awareness

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Health officials and students will discuss ways to prevent infection with the virus that causes AIDS during the 10th Annual Statewide HIV Awareness event this week.

Thursday's event at Crispus Attucks Medical Magnet School in Indianapolis will feature performances by Asante Children's Theatre and Young Actors Theatre. Students from Warren Central High School Herron High School and other schools will discuss what they're doing to promote awareness of HIV.

More than 10,000 Indiana residents are currently living with HIV or AIDS. Nearly 6,000 Hoosiers have died of the disease since 1981.

Students from Attucks will travel to Swaziland for two weeks later this month to talk to teens there about the disease.
