Joseph Kast Sentenced to 65 Years

A Fort Wayne man, convicted of a murder that happened more than 10 years ago, is sentenced to 65 years in jail.

Today Joseph Kast was found guilty of killing 85-year-old Claude Berkshire back in 2002.

During Kast’s sentencing hearing, Berkshire’s daughter told the courtroom that her family has forgiven Kast, according to our partners in news at 21 Alive.

Allen County Judge John Surbeck originally ruled Kast was not mentally stable to stand

trial; that decision was later reversed, and Kast was convicted in December.

He was previously convicted of murdering a Huntington couple, for which he received a

55-year sentence.
