NASHVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ A judge has decided a Bloomington man accused of killing an Indiana University student can seek additional public funds to hire experts and investigators for hearings closed to the prosecution and the public.

Forty-nine-year-old Daniel Messel is charged with murder in the fatal beating death of 22-year-old Hannah Wilson in April. The (Bloomington) Herald Times (http://bit.ly/1SvmJ0J) reports that his attorney claimed Messel's right to a fair trial and to remain silent would be compromised if the details justifying the need to hire experts and what they'll delve into are revealed.

Brown County Circuit Judge Judith Stewart granted the defense attorney's motion Thursday. She ruled that any details regarding decisions to grant funds won't be released, but the amount allotted to Messel will be available.
