Judge to Rule Later on Admitting Recordings From Indy Blast

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ The judge hearing the trial of a man charged in a deadly Indianapolis house explosion says he'll wait until later to rule on whether prosecutors can admit audio recordings of a man who initially survived the blast before dying.

Prosecutors argued Wednesday the audio recordings of John “Dion'' Longworth show the manner and cause of his death. However, defendant Mark Leonard's defense attorney says the recordings could be prejudicial against him.

St. Joseph Superior Court Judge John Marnocha said during the pretrial hearing he'll decide during the trial whether to admit the audio recordings and autopsy photos of Longworth and his wife, Jennifer.

Jury selection begins Thursday in Leonard's trial in South Bend.

The November 2012 explosion killed the Longworths and damaged or destroyed more than 80 homes.
