Knox County Considers Closing Several Roads

VINCENNES, Ind. (AP) _ Several rural gravel roads could be closed in a southwestern Indiana county where officials say they don’t have the money to pay for repair work.

Knox County highway superintendent Ron Cardinal says the 15 roads being considered have little traffic and some don’t have homes on them anymore. Cardinal tells the Vincennes Sun-Commercial that some of the roads have also become sites for drug activity and illegal dumping.

County commissioner Larry Holscher says while the county expects a nearly one-third increase this year in state road funding, it still faces a big shortfall in maintaining its some 880 miles of roads.
