INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indiana lawmakers say they plan to re-examine a deal which will keep the Amtrak line between Indianapolis and Chicago running for at least another year.
 
Gov. Mike Pence and local leaders signed off on a measure Tuesday that would use state local taxes to cover the cost of operating the line. The agreement will keep trains running through January 2015.
 
But members of the General Assembly's transportation study committee would like to take a look at the agreement in the coming year. House Transportation Chairman Ed Soliday said Wednesday he has concerns about the value of the rail service. Supporters of the continued service say it is vital to Indiana's economy.
 
The federal government ended subsidies for Amtrak service on its shortest routes throughout the nation in 2008.
