Leesburg Woman Seriously Injured after Colliding with Train

KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): A Leesburg woman was seriously injured after colliding with a train Friday afternoon in Kosciusko County.

Just after 4:30 p.m., Kosciusko County Sheriff's Deputies and emergency crews responded to the train/car crash near the intersection of County Road 600 North and Old State Road 15.  Responders found 58-year-old Lorraine Amerkanos, trapped inside her vehicle. She was extricated from her vehicle and taken to the hospital in serious condition with multiple injuries.

Police say a preliminary investigation of the crash has revealed that Amerkanos was eastbound on County Road 600 North, approaching the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing.  According to witness statements, she then failed to look for the northbound freight train, and pulled directly into its path.
