Legislators set to take Active Role of Approving Specialty License Plates

Indiana lawmakers have approved a proposal overhauling the state’s specialty auto license plate system.

Now, groups with plates must sell 500 a year and undergo a financial review once a decade.

The bill also creates an eight-member bipartisan commission to review requests from nonprofits and universities seeking specialty plates. The panel would also check reports about how the groups are spending their proceeds.
