Local Unemployment Goes Up, Statewide Rate Remains Unchanged

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The unemployment rate in metro Fort Wayne went up to 5.3 percent last month, compared to 4.8 percent in October.

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development says even though those numbers are high, the statewide unemployment rate remained unchanged last month at 5.7 percent.

Metropolitan Fort Wayne consists of Allen, Wells, and Whitley Counties. The Journal Gazette reports a high unemployment isn't likely to have a major effect on spending, and the National Retail Federation predicts holiday sales to increase 4.1 percent nationwide.
