Man admits to beating of 1-year-old girl

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A Fort Wayne man is facing 31 years in prison after pleading guilty to beating a toddler, then firing a handgun inside a home.

The Journal Gazette reports 28-year-old Trumarkus Alexander admitted Wednesday to assaulting his live-in girlfriend’s 1-year-old daughter, then firing a shot that hit a neighbor’s house when police came to investigate last November.

The child was hospitalized after the incident with one eye swollen shut and other injuries to her forehead.

Alexander pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent and unlawful possession of a firearm in a plea deal that will see charges of child molesting, battery, and resisting law enforcement all dropped.

He’ll be sentenced on September 14th.

Let’s see, child molesting, battery, and resisting law enforcement charges all dropped for pleading guilty of beating a toddler, then firing a handgun inside a home. How triumphant our Prosecuting team must feel. Another slam dunk. Possibly 31 years? I doubt it. How much time is it really?
