Man Arrested on Charges over Dismembered Body

CROWN POINT, Ind. (AP) – Police say a northwestern Indiana man has been arrested on charges that he killed a business partner and left his dismembered body in a car trunk.

Lake County sheriff's Deputy Chief Dan Murchek tells The Times of Munster (http://bit.ly/14KrAbg ) that 63-year-old Thomas Smith of Hobart surrendered on Tuesday at the department's office in Crown Point.

Investigators had been searching for Smith since the body was found in a trunk of a car owned by 48-year-old David Krawczenia of Portage after it was towed from a Griffith apartment complex on Friday.

Court documents say Krawczenia was last seen Nov. 1, the day he was meeting at Smith's auto repair garage in Gary to settle a sizeable debt. Smith faces a murder charge.
