Man Charged in Indianapolis Hit-and-Runs Dies in Jail

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ An Indianapolis man suspected in a series of hit-and-runs that injured six people in downtown Indianapolis has died in jail from an apparent suicide.

The Marion County Sheriff's Department said Friday that 41-year-old Michael Morris Jr. was found unresponsive Thursday night in a jail cell and later died.

Department spokeswoman Katie Carlson says Morris died from an apparent suicide but no details on how he may have taken his life are available because an investigation into his death is ongoing. No foul play is suspected in Morris' death.

He was arrested Wednesday and charged with battery, criminal recklessness and other felony charges.

Morris allegedly stabbed his wife and stole her car Wednesday morning and drove to downtown Indianapolis, where he struck the six people at five intersections.
