Man, Dogs Escape Early Morning House Fire in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, IND. (WOWO) A man and his dogs safely escaped a house fire early Wednesday morning on Fort Wayne’s southeast side, according to the Fort Wayne Fire Department.

Fire crews were called at 12:16 a.m. to a home in the 5000 block of Oliver Street, near East Pettit Avenue. Firefighters arrived four minutes later and found fire and smoke visible through the windows of the home.

Crews entered the residence to confirm all occupants had safely evacuated and then began extinguishing the fire. The fire was brought under control by 12:37 a.m.

The fire department said the fire started in the kitchen and was ruled accidental. No injuries were reported.

The home sustained moderate fire and water damage, along with heavy smoke damage, according to fire officials.

The incident remains under routine review by the fire department.
