GREENFIELD, IND. (WOWO) A Greenfield man is facing felony charges after police say he threatened several children with a knife while they were playing outside earlier this month, according to court documents.

Brett Kelcey Granger, 57, has been charged with four counts of intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony according to CBS-4.

Police responded to report of armed threats

According to the Greenfield Police Department, officers were dispatched to Osage Street on June 6 at approximately 7:45 p.m. following a report of threats involving a weapon.

Court documents state that three boys were playing in their front yard when they heard Granger yell at them to “shut up.”

Investigators say the situation escalated after the children continued playing.

Allegations of confrontation with knife

Police say Granger allegedly walked down a path toward the children’s home while yelling expletives and holding a blade.

According to court documents, he told the children words to the effect that he would “come over and beat” them.

Authorities have not reported any physical injuries to the children.

Witness account and statements to police

Officers also spoke with a witness who said she and Granger had been drinking prior to the incident.

The witness told police she sustained abrasions to her hand and knee after attempting to get Granger back inside the residence.

Court records indicate Granger admitted to leaving his home after initially yelling at the children but denied having a weapon during the encounter.

However, police say a knife was later discovered on his person during their investigation.

Charges filed in Hancock County

Granger was formally charged with four counts of intimidation involving a deadly weapon.

Each count is classified as a Level 5 felony under Indiana law.

Court proceedings in Hancock County are ongoing, and no additional hearings or trial dates have been publicly detailed.

Next steps

The case will proceed through the Hancock County court system, where prosecutors will present evidence gathered by Greenfield police. Granger is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
