Man with gun Fatally Shot by Indianapolis Police

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Police in Indianapolis say a man with a gun was fatally shot by police during a standoff involving the SWAT team that lasted nearly two hours.

City police spokesman Christopher Wilburn says the standoff began about 9:40 a.m. Tuesday when emergency personnel responding to a report of someone having trouble breathing spotted a gun inside and notified police. Wilburn says the man became volatile and didn't comply with orders from police, so the apartment building was evacuated.

Wilburn says police fired bean bags to try to subdue the man, but he ran back into the apartment. Wilburn says the man was shot when he pointed his gun at police.

Wilburn says the man died en route to the hospital. Wilburn says police are still trying to determine his identity.
