Motorcyclist injured after striking deer in Spencerville

SPENCERVILLE, Ind. (WOWO) – A man suffered an injury to his head after hitting a dear with his motorcycle Tuesday night.

48-year-old  Michael Spalding, sustained a laceration to the head following a collision with a deer while riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle in the 4100 block of County Road 68 in Spencerville, Indiana.

At around 10:30 Tuesday night,  Spalding was heading westbound on his 2022 Harley Davidson FLH. A deer suddenly darted into the roadway,  Spalding, unable to avoid the collision, struck the animal. The impact caused him to lose control of his motorcycle and be ejected from the bike.

The crash resulted in an estimated $15,000 worth of damage to the motorcycle. Spalding, who was not wearing a helmet at the time, suffered a laceration to the head. Emergency services were promptly summoned to the scene, and Spalding was transported to Parkview Hospital for medical treatment.

In addition to the injured motorcyclist, no other passengers or pedestrians were involved in the crash. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office reported that no other injuries or significant damage resulted from the incident.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Jackson Fire Department, Parkview EMS, and Tony’s Towing.
