N. Indiana Native Died in England Helicopter Crash

ROLLING PRAIRIE, Ind. (AP) – The stepfather of a northern Indiana native killed in a U.S. Air Force helicopter crash in eastern England says the family feels cheated.

Tech. Sgt. Dale E. Mathews was one of four crew members killed when the helicopter crashed during a training mission Tuesday.

His stepfather, Larry Gussman of Rolling Prairie, tells WNDU-TV that Matthews survived both wars in Iraq, only to die in a training exercise. He was due to come home in March following a 20-year Air Force career.

Mathews lived with his wife and two stepchildren near the Royal Air Force station in Lakenheath, England. He also had two children who live in Oklahoma.

Gussman says Mathews will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
