New Albany Police Arrest more than 20 People on Drug Charges

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) – Police in southern Indiana arrested more than 20 people, largely on charges of dealing heroin and other drugs.

New Albany police and other law enforcement agencies made the arrests Tuesday and Wednesday in the Louisville, Ky., suburb and neighboring communities.

They face charges including dealing in controlled substances, methamphetamine and marijuana.

New Albany Police Chief Sherri Knight says most the arrests “are related to dealing specifically heroin and prescription medications.”

Floyd County Prosecutor Keith Henderson said heroin overdose deaths have increased in the area. He says drug users have turned to heroin because it is fairly cheap and because authorities have cracked down on trafficking in painkillers and other prescription medications.
