FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): There are some new lights shining around Fort Wayne these days.

New traffic signals are being installed at various intersections this week with black backgrounds. The idea is to make the signals easier to see during bright, sunny days.

The City of Fort Wayne says the new LED lights are replacing old LEDs that are at the end of their lifecycle and meet new safety standards imposed by the Federal Highway Administration.

The city has received a little over $2 million in federal funds to cover the costs of the new lights, which will be installed throughout the city by Michiana Contracting through the end of next year.
