Newborn Baby found in Trash Can in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – An Indianapolis woman was arrested after police say she abandoned her newborn baby in a trash can.

Twenty-two-year-old Briana Holland was being held following her arrest Saturday on a preliminary charge of neglect. It wasn't clear whether she has an attorney.

The baby was found Friday evening in a trash can in a bathroom at a warehouse. Police believe Holland gave birth to the infant at the warehouse and then left the child in the building's bathroom.

Police say the child, whose gender wasn't released, is in good condition at Riley Hospital for Children.

Indiana has a safe haven law allowing a parent, relative, family friend or others to give up custody of a baby less than 45 days old to a hospital emergency room, police or fire station.
