MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) _ A judge has rejected a central Indiana county treasurer's request for the dismissal of criminal charges that he mishandling public money.
Attorneys for Delaware County Treasurer John Dorer had sought the dismissal on the grounds that the county sheriff and officials in each neighboring county have committed similar offenses but not faced charges.
Prosecutors filed 47 criminal counts against Dorer in April, most of which involve failing to deposit public money within 24 hours as required by state law.
The Star Press reports the judge granted a request to delay action on a lawsuit seeking Dorer's removal from office until after completion of the criminal case.
Dorer was elected county treasurer in 2008 and re-elected in 2012. His trial is set to start in February.
