WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ Police are trying to find whoever was piloting a small plane that went off a Purdue University Airport runway and ended up in the airport’s perimeter fence.
Airport staff reported finding the single-engine propeller plane Wednesday morning but no one was with it. Purdue Police Chief John Cox tells the Journal & Courier that the plane apparently landed sometime after airport had closed Tuesday night.
The plane went off the runway, over a dirt embankment and into the chain-link fence. The plane remained upright and Cox tells WLFI-TV that it has minor damage.
Cox says the plane is registered to a California owner but that police weren’t sure who was flying it.
