NW Indiana School District Fires Strip Club Teacher

CEDAR LAKE, Ind. (AP) – A northwestern Indiana school district fires a high school chemistry teacher who allegedly took students to a strip club and gave them alcoholic beverages at his home.

Hanover Community School Corp. Superintendent Tom Taylor says the district's Board of Trustees terminated the contract of 31-year-old Travis Lechien of Crown Point on Tuesday night, effective immediately.

Taylor tells The Times of Munster that Lechien “was terminated for immorality.” He says the district was to send Lechien a letter through its attorney.

Lechien earlier had been suspended from Hanover Central High School in Cedar Lake, about 15 miles south of Gary. Lake County prosecutors have filed three misdemeanor charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor against him.

A message seeking comment was left Thursday with Lechien's attorney.
