Obama Praises Princeton Manufacturing Success

PRINCETON, Ind. (AP) – Indiana's deep manufacturing roots are on display as President Barack Obama touts his economic policies.

Obama visited Millennium Steel in Princeton on Friday to call for an increase in the national minimum wage and showcase the nation's recovery from the Great Recession.

It wasn't the first time he's used Indiana manufacturing to make a point. Obama visited Elkhart County after the collapse of the recreational vehicle industry sent unemployment rates as high as 19 percent in 2009.

Friday's visit took a more positive note. The president said manufacturing has helped drive the U.S. recovery, and he said more needs to be done to draw young people into the sector.

Southwestern Indiana has long been a manufacturing hub. The arrival of Toyota in the late 1990s has fueled additional growth.
