Ohio issues roughly 72,000 new concealed-carry licenses

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WOWO): The number of new concealed-carry licenses rose last year in Ohio after experiencing a drop in 2014.

A state report released Tuesday shows roughly 72,000 new licenses were issued in 2015, up from about 58,000 in the previous year.

Concealed-carry licenses expire after five years. About 45,000 licenses were renewed last year. Each county sheriff must report concealed handgun license statistics to the state on a quarterly basis. Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine then compiles that data into an annual report.

The report also shows sheriffs revoked 530 licenses and denied about 1,100 in 2015, both increases over the previous year. About 1,300 permits were suspended, compared to just over 1,400 in 2014.
