FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Drug overdose deaths are down in Allen County.

At this time last year, the Allen County Coroner’s Office had seen 73 overdose-related deaths. This year, they’ve only seen 38 so far.

Our Partners in News at ABC 21 report that paramedics have been seeing fewer overdose numbers in general, but last month the numbers shot up thanks to a new strain of synthetic marijuana laced with opioids like fentanyl.

More agencies having access to Narcan, an overdose-reversal drug, is part of the reason deaths are down.

Coroner’s Office Chief Investigator Michael Burris says the numbers are “good news” for everyone.
