FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A request for a catholic parish northwest of Fort Wayne has been denied.

The Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend announced there’s not enough support to establish a new parish, based on a survey they sent out last year.

The Journal Gazette reports that only half of the households that got a survey responded, and of that number, almost half said they would not support a parish built on the north side of Huntertown on 40 acres the Diocese owns.

Reverend Kevin Rhoades added that if parishes already in the area become overcrowded, a new parish could end up being estalished anyway.
