Pence Expected to Name New Auditor

INDIANAPOLIS (AP): Gov. Mike Pence is ready to announce Indiana's new state auditor weeks after his previous pick's surprise announcement that he was stepping down after just four months on the job.

Pence said Friday he will announce Monday his new auditor pick to serve out the remainder of former Auditor Tim Berry's term.

After Berry vacated the job to run the Indiana Republican Party for Pence, Pence picked Dwayne Sawyer in August to complete Berry's term. But the Brownsburg Republican unexpectedly announced last month that he would resign from the post for personal reasons. Sawyer's last day was Sunday.

Sawyer had been slated to run for a full term next year and was hand-picked from a small field of other candidates by Pence. The reason for Sawyer's sudden departure remains unexplained.
