Pence Signs `Right to Try’ Trial Drugs Bill

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): Tuesday afternoon, Governor Mike pence signed into law HEA 1065. The bill will give terminally ill patients in Indiana easier access to experimental drugs not yet on pharmacy shelve is about to become law.

The Governor signed the bill during a ceremony Tuesday. Legislators gave final approval last week to the measure that gives patients access to treatments after they've cleared the first phase of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's approval process.

The so-called right-to-try laws already are in place in eight states, including Michigan, Missouri and Arizona. About two dozen other states are considering similar proposals this year.

Supporters say it would help shorten patients' wait time for potentially lifesaving drugs since the federal process can take about 10 to 15 years to complete
