INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): Democrats have accused Indiana Gov. Mike Pence of “punting” on civil rights protections during the State of the State address last night.

He said he wouldn't support adding LGBT rights protections if he believes that step would diminish religious freedoms, but gave no further details on what kind of protections he would support. Fort Wayne Senator David Long says Pence was as specific as he needed to be:

“On whether the Governor has to stand up there and say 'I'll do this, I won't do that,' I don't agree with that. It's very uncertain where this legislation is going, this issue is morphing as we speak. There's a lot going on nationally that complicates it for us.”

Gay-rights group “Freedom Indiana” says they're redoubling their efforts on getting such protections into the state's civil rights law.
