Indiana County’s Inmates May Soon Post Bail With Credit Card

NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) _ Inmates at a southern Indiana jail soon might be able to use a credit card to get out of jail.

Floyd County Jail inmates held in the Ohio River city of New Albany currently have to use cash or go through a bondsman to post bail.

But the News and Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1HQsmn9 ) an ordinance approved last week by the county's commissioners would allow inmates, through the website govpaynet.com, to use credit cards to post bail. The county would receive 15 percent of the fee charged to the card user.

If the county council approves that plan, credit cards will be allowed for bond payment once the equipment is in place.
