FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The Fort Wayne City Council is hoping more shelters will be opened to keep people warm overnight.

The Council voted last night to urge shelters in the city to open their warming centers to the homeless whenever the temperature falls to 32 degrees or below. The News-Sentinel reports the move is a non-binding resolution, so shelters don't have to follow the request.

Some shelters, like the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission, open up at 40 degrees, while others wait until it hits 10 degrees, which Council member Dr. John Crawford says is “medically too low.”
