Police: Indianapolis Officer Shoots Suspect Armed With Guns

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Indianapolis police have shot and wounded a suspect armed with two guns during a stop on the city's northwest side.

Police say 21-year-old Deonte Ellis of Indianapolis was in stable condition Tuesday at an Indianapolis hospital. He's been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.

Police say an officer shot Ellis late Monday after finding him armed during the stop. They say Ellis was found with one gun in his sweatpants and a second gun on the floorboard of the car.

Police say the driver of the car wasn't injured. He hasn't been arrested and is cooperating with investigators.

Police say the officer will be placed on administrative leave.

It wasn't clear whether Ellis has an attorney who might comment on his behalf.
