Police: Lafayette Man Tried To Rob Blind Woman With Machete

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – An 18-year-old Lafayette man faces criminal charges after police say he attempted to rob a blind woman with a machete and pellet gun.

WTHI-TV reports Luis Torres and two others are accused of trying to rob the woman at her Lafayette apartment on Tuesday evening.

Police were called by a neighbor who witnessed the attempted robbery. Officers found Torres and a juvenile suspect, but the third suspect got away. Torres had a knife and machete in his possession when he was arrested, while a pullet gun was found in a nearby trash can.

Police say Torres told them he and the others were trying to get marijuana from someone the juvenile suspect knows.

Torres is being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail. It wasn't immediately known if he has an attorney yet.
