Police: Safe to Return to Indy Federal Building

INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): The “all-clear” has been given and people are returning to Indianapolis’ Federal Building after police declared the area safe just before 4 p.m.

For nearly two hours this afternoon authorities scoured the downtown building after a suspicious device was found in a bag during X-ray scanning around 2 p.m..

Police say the device has been removed and is in the possession of federal officials. The device was detonated in a controlled blast inside the building by a bomb team.

One woman, believed to be the owner of the bag, has been detained for questioning.

Several streets around the building, including Pennsylvania Street were closed during the search.
