Power Outage Update

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO):  As of 2:00 p.m., Wednesday afternoon, about 6,000 I&M customers were without power. That is down from the peak of about 11,000 at 8:00 a.m., this morning.

In the Fort Wayne area, about 5,500 customers are currently without power. Officials with I&M predict to have power restored to about 90 percent of the Fort Wayne area by 6:00 p.m., Wednesday evening and the remainder by 2:00 p.m., Thursday.

The outages are the result of heavy snow, rain and wind, causing trees to fall into power lines. The weather also created treacherous road conditions, which limited the ability of crews to quickly assess damage and begin restoration.

Other I&M crews and contractors are coming from surrounding areas to help with the restoration of power.
