Pregnant Employee Takes Fort Wayne Business to Court

Fort Wayne: (WOWO)- An employee of a Fort Wayne office machine company is accusing the business of discrimination, after she was fired while pregnant.

According to the Journal Gazette, a federal lawsuit was filed on Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Fort Wayne accusing Office Concepts Inc. of firing Lynsey Burd, after she told the manager she was pregnant.

Her last task with the company was to train a new employee that was hired in anticipation of her departure. After Burd left, the company hired a new person who was reportedly not pregnant.

The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) says Office Concepts was in violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, a law that prohibits any discrimination against employees who are pregnant.
