WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ Active-duty military members and veterans who are interested in agricultural careers will get a chance to explore a farm with Purdue University.

The university says participants will tour Blue Yonder Organic Farm in North Salem on Aug. 16. They can speak with owner Sara Creech, who is a former member of the Air Force. She raises pastured chickens, turkeys, ducks and sheep and grows organic fruits and vegetables.

The workshop also will include a session with experts who will discuss financial support programs for veterans who want to farm, including federal grants and loans.

Cindra Chastain is farmer veteran coordinator with the AgrAbility program at Purdue. Chastain says the university hopes to create a network of farmers who are veterans who can interact and learn from each other.
